David Shannon

David recently appeared in COME FROM AWAY in the West End.


His first professional break came at the age of 21 when he won a role in the touring production of LES MISÉRABLES in Dublin and Edinburgh. He has consistently worked in musical theatre and concerts since that time and has also written and recorded original songs. He is well-known for his appearances in iconic leading roles including The Phantom in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and Jean Valijean in LES MISÉRABLES in London’s West End. He was nominated for an Olivier Award in 2001 for creating the role of John in THE BEAUTIFUL GAME at the Cambridge Theatre.

He first appeared on screen in Roddy Doyle’s critically acclaimed comedy THE SNAPPER directed by Stephen Frears. David also worked on two feature films, NOAH starring Russell Crowe and Ray Winstone and directed by Darren Aronofsky with Paramount Pictures and 5 TO 7 directed by prime-time Emmy nominated Victor Levin, with Anton Yelchin and Frank Langella.

Recent credits include Miss Trunchbull  in the multi-award winning musical MATILDA directed by Matthew Warchus for the Royal Shakespeare Company at Cambridge Theatre, Michael Hirst’s action/adventure series VIKINGS directed by Ciaran Donnelly for History, the role of Paris in William Shakespeare’s ROMEO & JULIET directed by Wayne Jordan at the Gate Theatre, The Ghost Fancier in Marina Carr’s dark comedy BY THE BOG OF CATS directed by Selina Cartmell at the Abbey Theatre and THE THREEPENNY OPERA by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill at the Gate Theatre, Dublin.
