Michael Patrick

Michael Patrick is an award-winning Irish actor and writer whose work spans theatre, television, film, and radio.

 

In January 2025, Michael won the Judges’ Award at The Stage Awards, recognising his exceptional contribution to contemporary theatre.

 

Recent stage credits include MY RIGHT FOOT, Michael’s autobiographical play, co-written and directed by Oisín Kearney. The production premiered as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival 2025 before transferring to the Lyric Theatre, Belfast, and documents Michael’s experience following his diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease. The play received outstanding critical acclaim, including a five-star review from The Irish Times.

 

Other recent theatre work includes THE TRAGEDY OF RICHARD III at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast, earning five stars from The Stage, which described Michael’s performance as “a masterclass in Shakespearean verse speaking… an unforgettable act of physical expression and artistic courage.”

He most recently reprised the role of Naoise in LIE LOW at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, followed by a run at the Traverse Theatre as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

 

Michael trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, London, after studying Science at the University of Cambridge, where he performed with the renowned Cambridge Footlights.

 

Television credits include THIS TOWN (BBC/Kudos), created by Steven Knight, BLUE LIGHTS (BBC), MY LEFT NUT (BBC), KRYPTON (DC Entertainment/Warner Bros), SOFT BORDER PATROL (BBC NI), and GAME OF THRONES (HBO).

Film work includes BALLYWALTER, directed by Prasanna Puwanarajah, and short films UNHINGED (Dublin International Film Festival) and THE BLACK WEDDING.

 

In 2017, Michael co-wrote and performed the acclaimed one-man show MY LEFT NUT, developed through the Dublin Fringe Festival’s Show in a Bag programme. The production toured Ireland and the UK, played the Edinburgh Fringe, and was later adapted into a BBC Three television series.

 

His extensive theatre credits also include OTHELLO (Abbey Theatre), RADAMISTO (NI Opera), BLACKOUT (Lyric Theatre Belfast), and roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company including MEASURE FOR MEASURE and THE TAMING OF THE SHREW.

 

Michael is a frequent contributor to BBC Radio Drama, with recent credits including The Circus, The House That Vanished, The 100 Year Backstop, and Hiding Out, alongside voice-over work for The School of Life.

 

Michael continues to write, perform and create new work.
