Orla Fitzgerald

 

Orla is a highly experienced Irish stage actress who has worked extensively in productions both in Ireland and the UK. She recently played the role of Ada in the Gate Theatre production of Enda Walsh’s THE NEW ELECTRIC BALLROOM.


She is currently filming the fourth season of BBC 3 series THE YOUNG OFFENDERS.


Further stage credits include the role of Maureen in Martin McDonagh's THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE, a co-production between the Chichester Festival Theatre and the Lyric Hammersmith, the lead role of Josephine in Stacey Gregg’s JOSEPHINE K AND THE ALGORITHMS at the Abbey Theatre, directed by Caitriona McLaughlin, the role of Valerie in Conor McPherson’s THE WEIR, directed by Rachel O’Riordan at the Sherman Theatre, the role of Winnie Carney in INSIDE THE GPO directed by Jim Culleton for Fishamble and performed inside Dublin's GPO,  the role of Abigail Colgan alongside Lorcan Cranitch and Peter Coonan in Ross Dungan’s BEFORE MONSTERS WERE MADE, directed by Ben Kidd for 15th Oak Productions , the role of Clare in DIGGING FOR FIRE directed by Matt Torney for Rough Magic Theatre Company (for which she received a Best Actress nomination in the Irish Times Theatre Awards) both at the Project Arts Centre, PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD directed by Conall Morrison and UNCLE VANYA, directed by Mick Gordon, both at the Lyric Belfast.

 

Notable film work includes the role of Kate Walsh in THE GUARANTEE directed by Ian Power, SPEEDDATING directed by Tony Herbert and the role of Sinéad in Ken Loach's THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY, for which she was nominated for Best Actress and Best Breakthrough Artist at the Irish Film and Television Awards.

 

Television credits include TAKEN DOWN for RTE, THE C WORD and HOLBY BLUE for the BBC, the ITV series LAW AND ORDER UK, THE LAST FURLONG, LOVE IS THE DRUG and PURE MULE: THE LAST WEEKEND for RTÉ, and the E4 comedy CARDINAL BURNS.

 

Orla is based in London.
