Orla Fitzgerald
Orla’s recent screen credits include Breda in THE MURDER OF MR MOONLIGHT for the BBC, directed by Dathai Keane and Rachel Carey; the fifth series of THE YOUNG OFFENDERS; Petula in THE FAMOUS FIVE for the BBC; and Anna Rogulskyj in THE LONG SHADOW for ITV, produced by New Pictures. She also played Helena (Washington Judge) in the feature film RULE BREAKERS, directed by Bill Guttentag for Black Autumn Show.
Her further film work includes Sinéad in Ken Loach’s THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY, for which she received Irish Film and Television Award nominations for Best Actress and Best Breakthrough Artist; Kate Walsh in THE GUARANTEE, directed by Ian Power; and SPEEDDATING, directed by Tony Herbert.
Other television credits include TAKEN DOWN for RTÉ; THE C WORD and HOLBY BLUE for the BBC; ITV’s LAW & ORDER: UK; THE LAST FURLONG, LOVE IS THE DRUG and PURE MULE: THE LAST WEEKEND for RTÉ; and the E4 comedy CARDINAL BURNS.
An experienced stage actress, Orla has worked extensively in Ireland and the UK. She most recently appeared in THERESE, directed by Veronica Coburn at Project Arts Centre as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival. Other recent theatre credits include Grace in FAITH HEALER, directed by Geoff Gould for Blood in the Alley, and Ada in the Gate Theatre’s production of Enda Walsh’s THE NEW ELECTRIC BALLROOM.
Further stage credits include Maureen in Martin McDonagh’s THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE, a co-production between Chichester Festival Theatre and the Lyric Hammersmith; Josephine in Stacey Gregg’s JOSEPHINE K AND THE ALGORITHMS at the Abbey Theatre, directed by Caitriona McLaughlin; and Valerie in Conor McPherson’s THE WEIR at the Sherman Theatre, directed by Rachel O’Riordan.
She also played Winnie Carney in Fishamble’s INSIDE THE GPO, directed by Jim Culleton and performed inside Dublin’s GPO, and Abigail Colgan in Ross Dungan’s BEFORE MONSTERS WERE MADE for 15th Oak Productions, directed by Ben Kidd, alongside Lorcan Cranitch and Peter Coonan. Her performance as Clare in Rough Magic’s DIGGING FOR FIRE, directed by Matt Torney at Project Arts Centre, earned her an Irish Times Theatre Award nomination for Best Actress. Other theatre credits include THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD, directed by Conall Morrison, and UNCLE VANYA, directed by Mick Gordon, both at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast.
